The secret had been unveiled at the launching of Xbox 360

It is not yet known if the development of Quake 4 for the Xbox 360 console was meant to be the biggest secret ever kept, but if that was the intention, then id Software still has a lot to learn about keeping the secrecy of an important project.

Eventually, id Software officially announced the sequel of the shooter, and now we know for sure that Quake 4, developed by Raven and built on the Doom 3 engine will be one of the main titles for Microsoft's latest console.

?QUAKE 4 utilizes the power of our groundbreaking DOOM 3(r) engine to transport players into a war-torn science-fiction universe graphically realized like never before", said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software.

The gamers will play Matthew Kane, an elite member of the Rhino Squad which is part of the new permanent invading force, the main resistance against the Strogg aliens.

The hero will fight alone, with the rest of the team, from flying tanks, mechanized walkers, the ultimate goal being the defeat of the Strogg war machine.

However, in this epic battle, the only possibility of defeating the aliens is to become one of them. In the first missions, the gamer will fight from the perspective of a marine, and later on he will transform himself into a Strogg with powers that can tip the balance of the war.
